Ridgeway Music Gala Christmas Concert
Saturday 15th December 7pm - Merlin Theatre
Congratulations to our massed band, choir and soloists who all performed at the Merlin Theatre on Saturday 15th December, the concert was fantastic! Musicians from twelve different schools joined together to perform a programme of festive treats. The performers attended a series of three after school rehearsals and spent the afternoon of the concert day working intensively at the theatre. We are so proud of what everyone achieved in such a short space of time, the hard work certainly paid off. The highlight of the evening for many was the finale 'Queen Medley' specially arranged for the event by Mr Corker in which all the young musicians performed on stage together, the sound was incredible!
We have already started planning our next big concert event in which we hope to involve musicians from across all our junior bands in the Spring, watch this space!
Rehearsals for the Christmas Gala Concert at the Merlin Theatre.
September 2018 - Demonstration Assemblies
Wednesday 5th Sept - Woodseats Primary
Thursday 6th Sept - Carterknowle Junior
Welcome back! To start off the academic year Mr Corker and Miss Walmsley have begun delivering special demonstration assemblies to some of our junior aged pupils. The session started with the children singing George Ezra's recent chart number 1, 'Shotgun' accompanied by Mr C and Miss W on guitars. What superb singers to be able to perform an acoustic version so confidently, even when Mr C started to add harmonies!
We then looked more closely at instruments from both the woodwind and brass families. Miss Walmsley showed off the agility of her flute with 'Flight of the Bumblebee', and the rather unusual skill of playing a carrot! Mr Corker showed the trumpets ability to play in many different styles, 'shock notes', fanfares, jazz and even probably the most heard trumpet melody currently on TV, the 'Coronation Street Theme'. Both schools seemed to really enjoy our arrangement of 'Star Wars' played on trumpet, clarinet and the entire saxophone family! The session ended with a rousing performance of 'Up Town Funk' on trumpet and tenor sax with the pupils using body percussion to perform a rhythmic ostinato.
If we have inspired you why not give one of 6 week starter schemes a try?

The sun was out and although we got a little warm at one point the band remained very professional, what superstars!

Woodseats Primary School Demonstration Assembly - Thursday 7th September
Mr Corker and Miss Walmsley treated KS2 to a very special musical assembly. Things got off to a groovy start with Uptown Funk played as a Trumpet and Sax duet with the junior pupils providing the rhythmic ostinato. The children then saw everything from a carrot flute to a bass flute, Mr Corker's incredible hosepipe trumpet to the trombone, and all manor of saxophones, clarinets and orchestral brass!

Carterknowle Junior Band - Summer Fair, Friday 7th July 2017

The band performed on the outside stage area to a friendly crowd of parents, friends, staff and teachers from both schools. The programme included Mattachins, Farandole, September Spooky and Rocktober Roll. The weather was kind as the sun shone throughout, with only one incident of the glockenspiel music blowing away in the breeze!
