Ridgeway Music Spring Showcase
Saturday 24th March, 7pm - Merlin Theatre
Congratulations to everyone who performed at our Spring Showcase at the Merlin Theatre. Over 60 musicians from eleven different schools joined together to perform a programme of music to celebrate our achievements this term. The massed band performed a diverse range of music including a medley from 'Pirates of the Caribbean' and 'Thankyou for Being a Friend'. The audience was also treated to a number of instrumental and vocal solos, as well as some smaller student led ensemble pieces. The evening concluded with a rousing performance of Sigrid's current chart hit 'Strangers', skilfully arranged by our Head of Service Andrew Corker to include all the showcase performers. The massed band and vocalists sounded amazing in the newly refurbished theatre! We look forward to returning to the Merlin Theatre soon!
The first rehearsal of the Merlin Showcase Band, and what a fantastic sound they made!
Ridgeway Music Gala Christmas Concert
Wednesday 13th December 7pm - Christ Church Dore Hall
Invited musicians from across eleven different schools joined together to perform in a massed band and choir at this festive event. The scene for the concert was set with the beautiful opening rendition of Walking in the Air from our choir and soloists. Our massed band did us proud, filling the hall with a super sound. The evening also featured soloists ranging from Y6 - Y13. A big thank you to everyone who performed! We are looking forward to working towards our Spring Gala Concert at the newly refurbished Merlin Theatre.
Gala Christmas Concert Rehearsals
Alongside our weekly lunchtime band rehearsals, over 60 musicians joined together for three massed band and choir rehearsals held at Meerbrook Bank Primary and King Ecgbert Secondary Schools. Conducted by both Mr Corker and Miss Walmsley the band and vocalists worked really hard in their preparations for the gala performance and achieved such a lot in such a short space of time, well done everyone!
Woodseats Primary School Demonstration Assembly - Thursday 7th September
Mr Corker and Miss Walmsley treated KS2 to a very special musical assembly. Things got off to a groovy start with Uptown Funk played as a Trumpet and Sax duet with the junior pupils providing the rhythmic ostinato. The children then saw everything from a carrot flute to a bass flute, Mr Corker's incredible hosepipe trumpet to the trombone, and all manor of saxophones, clarinets and orchestral brass!
If you're feeling inspired to give learning an instrument a go why not try our new FastBrass or Windfast schemes. These courses are specially designed accelerated learning programmes for beginners.
Carterknowle Junior Band - Summer Fair, Friday 7th July 2017
Carterknowle Junior Band gave a fantastic performance at the Holt House and Carterknowle Junior Summer Fair. The band performed on the outside stage area to a friendly crowd of parents, friends, staff and teachers from both schools. The programme included Mattachins, Farandole, September Spooky and Rocktober Roll. The weather was kind as the sun shone throughout, with only one incident of the glockenspiel music blowing away in the breeze!
